My take on
text-to-cad (earthtojake/text-to-cad) after testing it with Claude Code on a CPU-only Linux box:
- โ
It made a real, printable part. One sentence got me a phone stand as an STL print file, an editable STEP file and a rendered picture.
- ๐ It measures its own work. 23 checks on size, angle, thickness and balance, and they all passed when I ran them again.
- ๐ก It made sensible choices I didn't ask for, like a cable slot so you can charge the phone, and it told me about them.
- ๐ข About 7 minutes for a simple part, and the first run downloads its 3D engine.
- ๐ Telemetry is on by default. One command turns it off. I didn't actually 3D-print the stand.
"I described a phone stand in one sentence and got a file I could send straight to a 3D printer."
